Another photoshop blog that I hope
is useful. Questions in the ask box, resources under tags, you know the drill. :)
We also take psd. and tutorials requests.

TIPS to get your gif under 1 mb :)

Start by making your gif. Crop, resize if you want, blah blah. Nothing else. I WILL NOT be using PSD’s for this tutorial but those lower gif sizes too. If you wanna sharpen as well, go right ahead.

FIRST EXAMPLE:


  1. Ok so normally, you wanna stay AWAY from colours. But for this first example, my gif has a WHITE background, so I can keep colours. Maybe even enhance them a bit. If you’ve ever heard of DARKENING your gifs to make them less sized, you can do the same with lightening, so long as you have quite a bit white in your gif:(I’m gonna add some vibrance. You can, too! )
  2. As you can see, the white in the background is a bit of a gradient. We wanna make that one nice solid colour. We’re gonna do that using LEVELS in our adjusment panel.
  3. You can use BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST to get a light background too:
  4. SO THAT on it’s own, 15 frames(didnt cut a single frame) and all that colour, saved as 968 kb:

EXAMPLE 2:

OK so that was kind of not fair, considering most gifs are SO colourful. Here’s a more fair tutorial:

  1. ONCE AGAIN, crop resize sharpen blah blah.
  2. This gif is not very colourful, so I’m gonna add some vibrance…:
  3. Now the catch with this gif is that the camera is still, so the background isn’t moving. We’re gonna freeze that part, because it takes up waaaaay less size, and it won’t even be noticeable! USE THIS SUPER EASY TUTORIAL.
  4. JUST DOING THAT brought my 27 FRAME GIF to 473 kb ( i added some colour ^_^) :

Demon Eyes Gif Tutorial First of all here is a basic tutorial on how to make gifs in general. This one is just for the eyes. <!-- more --> Also youll see little pictures like this  on the layers window. Theyre just folders to put images in and are super useful in keeping your layers window clean when you start working with a lot of frames. And finally this tutorial is mainly for if you want the eyes to fade in. If you want the subject to blink and then have demon eyes then start at step 4 with the first frame that shows the eye opening a bit. 1. Once youve chosen your video- I recommend something where the eyes are clearly visible (otherwise people might miss it) and dont move too much (it saves a lot of effort)  -import the frames and crop them to how you want them. Also add any colouring and textures you want now because it will effect how you colour the eyes later. I imported mine as every two frames and changed the speed to 0.08 seconds. 2. Play the gif through and decide where you want to start. I recommend leaving a little a couple of frames in front. 3. Using the brush tool on a new layer colour just over the iris of the eye. Make sure the brush is at something close to 0% hardness so that the edges blur in with the rest of the eye. Its only a really small change but you need to move in small increments if you want the animation to look smooth. 4. Repeat step 3 multiple times, increasing that area that is darkened with each frame. Continue until the eyes are mostly filled in. You might want to increase the opacity of each painted frame to make the fade-in smoother. Also its best to change the blending mode to overlay or something similar, this way you can keep the little light reflection on the eye without having to paint it in each time. 4. Once you get to a stage where the majority of the eye is filled in you need to be a bit more careful, maybe decrease the size and increase the hardness of the brush. Make sure to colour right to the edge of the eye and blur the edge a little bit to make it look more realistic. and dont forget to put it on overlay like I did 5. Repeat this with every frame left. 6. Add any more details (extra sparkle for the eye, make part of the gif still, desaturate it) and youre done!
